hormones and the heart

Cardiovascular disease remains the number one cause of death in the United States.  A tremendous amount of research dollars are spent every year trying to discover new ways to reduce the rates of atherosclerosis which lead to coronary artery disease and ultimately heart attacks and strokes.   The idea behind anti-aging medicine is not just the aesthetics that everyone thinks about but prevention of the development of age related diseases that result in disability and death.  First and foremost in this endeavor is the prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease.  The most important facet of this equation is nutrition.  Patients are always amazed at the health benefits that simple good nutrition can provide in the way of risk reduction.  Patients always think that cures come in pill form when actually the first step is to eat right.  This means eating well balanced meals with plenty of organically grown fruits and vegetables.

The second facet is exercise.  That is right, exercise.  Simple, regular exercise has amazing health benefits that truly last a lifetime.   Finally, the last facet is medical therapy.  Part of medical therapy in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease is hormonal balancing.  Maintaining normal testosterone levels in men has recently been proven to be associated with lower cardiovascular disease.  We are also treating women aggressively with only bio-identical estrogen to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.  In certain individuals, treating with growth hormone therapy can also reduce cardiovascular risk and in patients with weak hearts it can significantly improve cardiac function.

Balancing thyroid function can help to improve overall cholesterol ratios.  Finally, if all of these measures do not provide the significant improvement in the cholesterol ratios that are required to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease to a minimum then pharmaceutical medications are utilized to balance the facets of healthy eating, vigorous exercise and hormonal balancing.   Ultimately we all want to live life to the fullest extent and by following these measures it  is truly possible.

We at Human Performance Longevity Center are committed to providing the most up to date and accurate treatment on reducing your risk for cardiovascular disease and keeping your heart healthy.
